What is PBIS? PBIS is a framework or approach for assisting school personnel in adopting and organizing evidence-based behavioral interventions into an integrated continuum that enhances academic and social behavior outcomes for all students.
North Albany Academy follows the three B's: Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible.
Effective classroom management and preventive school discipline are essential for supporting teaching and learning.
PBIS goes further by emphasizing that classroom management and preventive school discipline must be integrated and working together with effective academic instruction in a positive and safe school climate to maximize success for all students.

As a fifth grade teacher it is my responsibility to make sure your child is in an environment conducive to learning. Not only is the PBIS program implemented but additionally a whole group, small group and individual reward system is used daily to motivate learning. Students will take part in creating a rule and procedure guideline however I expect students to always be respectful of one another, of property, to listen, work as a team and most importantly do their best!
Following along with PBIS our classroom will have a Class DOJO. Here I will reward points for positive behavior daily and monitor all accomplishments throughout the day. I will send reports home to you each week. Both you and your child will have access to these reports on the website. Not only is this a fun and positive way to hold students accountable for their learning, it helps to connect the teacher, parent, and student relationship. You can get a view here http://www.classdojo.com/parentsignup.
Students must maintain 80% to participate in PBIS celebrations. We are also using the check system, students are able to receive 3 checks per subject area throughout the day if they are not following the PBIS NAA Standards. This includes not doing homework for each area. If they fail to do homework they will get a check in the subject area, more than 4 checks they are not at 80%. Not maintaining 80% daily each month will PREVENT your student from participating in any PBIS activities.
- PBIS IS NOT a packaged curriculum, scripted intervention, or manualized strategy.
- PBIS IS a prevention-oriented way for school personnel to (a) organize evidence-based practices, (b) improve their implementation of those practices, and (c) maximize academic and social behavior outcomes for students.
- PBIS supports the success of ALL Students.
- WE ARE A PBIS SCHOOL and PBIS is DISTRICT WIDE!
